Sons of York, Tales of the White Boar 3. A collection of short fiction about the future Richard III as a child and as the young Duke of Gloucester. In this anthology his brothers, including the tragic Edmund of Rutland, all feature as prominent characters.
COUSINS. Cecily Neville and her children are sent in disgrace to Cecily's sister, Anne, the Duchess of Buckingham, after the sack of Ludlow. There Richard meets a younger cousin who will one day greatly impact the course of his life.
CRUEL MIDWINTER. The last days of Edward of Rutland, the 'forgotten' son of York who was killed in the battle of Wakefield at the young age of seventeen. War and deception, murder by Butcher Clifford in a brutal act of revenge on the House of York.
THE ROAD TO OLNEY. Edward IV takes his 16 year old brother, Richard of Gloucester on a pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Meanwhile trouble is brewing in the north, with the rebellion of Robin of Redesdale...who is being funded by the Earl of Warwick.

Sons of York Richard III and his Brothers Tales of the White Boar Book 3 eBook JP Reedman

While this book added to my knowledge of the Plantagenet family, I felt it lacked the detail and depth of other histories of this family and era. One did gain insight into the dramatic differences between the brothers, in in knowing the final outcomes, the death of Edmund, the rise of William to the throne, the jealousy of George and the unfailing loyalty of Richard. It's interesting to speculate what might have happened had Edmund survived. Nevertheless, this was a helpful read, though as I noted, lacking in detail and depth.

Sons of York Richard III and his Brothers Tales of the White Boar Book 3 eBook JP Reedman Reviews

This is a very engaging portrayal of Richard of Gloucester, the future Richard III, and his brothers. It includes a story about Edmund, the often-forgotten York brother. If you are Ricardian and would like to read some well-written and charming stories, often from a more unusual angle, then this book is for you.
Stories are good, and plausible. Following each is the historical context and the author's reason for certain scenes, which I very much appreciate.
However, a good proofreader would also be appreciated!
I've just finished this 3rd collection of short stories on young Richard and his family and I must say this is my favourite one so far. It sounds like the author has been building up her writing style the more she plunged into her subject and has muscled for a bigger challenge.

Once again these short stories deal with otherwise little known episodes of Richard's life and his family and help picture this much maligned king as a child, a young man and in general a human being with very heartfelt insights, though necessarily fictionalised ones despite the general accuracy in staying true to documented facts. Good job Ms Reedman!
A short, but excellent synopsis of the York boys and their Dad. Christine Schulz
